Just a longer version of a tweet I wrote yesterday:
You know what the upside of being lonely is? It makes your mind, nah your WHOLE self, works to create things to fill the void. It makes you more creative.
So, is loneliness a precondition for creativity?
I believe it is, though it is not the only one. It takes more than just loneliness to be creative. I should say it’s just a trigger. The ingredients — the raw materials, if you like — should already have been there in the first place; and the wok in which you’d cook them: you need to see enough, observe enough, experience enough, absorb enough of what goes about around you, and reflect upon them, digest them long enough to get them ready for the spark to light the light.
That’s how I’d describe it.
